  held first Saturday of every month at the Peanut Farm Reserve\, right beh
 ind Veg Out. Veg Out is an organic\, chemical free garden market run by vo
 lunteers behind Acland St\, near Luna Park.\n\nFormerly a lawn bowling gre
 en\, the land Veg Out is situated on is administered by the local council 
 for the State of Victoria\, and has been permanently reserved for public u
 se since 1881.\n\nWe have over 140 plots\, where members\, friends\, famil
 ies and community groups enjoy getting their hands into the soil. Many hav
 e little or no gardening experience\, but they soon learn as advice\, seed
 lings and friendships are readily shared.\n\nA commitment to a sense of co
 mmunity\, conservation and organic gardening principles underpins all acti
 vities on the site. Related endeavours include the monthly Veg Out St Kild
 a Farmers' Market and water conservation initiatives in association with S
 outh East Water.\n\nUnlike most community gardens in Melbourne\, Veg Out l
 acks rigid barriers between common land and each plot\; the paths curve an
 d meander\; flowers\, vegetables and artworks have equal standing\; the ra
 bbits\, chickens\, budgies and quails add yet another dimension\; and the 
 friendships that have sprung up between gardeners\, artists and visitors m
 ake the gardens an oasis of calm in one of Melbourne's busiest tourist pre
