In this talk I'll discuss how the 'pi geons are pests' narrative reinforces cruelty and lethal control of pigeon s in urban environments. This harmful narrative shapes public perception a nd policy\, which enables individuals and organisations to overlook or jus tify the suffering pigeons endure. I'll also discuss the role of fear-base d marketing within the pest control industry\, and how this is used to dri ve demand for inhumane practices while generating profit.  While public s entiment towards pigeons is shifting in a more positive direction\, I'll h ighlight the increasing importance of building community\, challenging mis information\, and promoting compassionate\, evidence-based approaches to c oexistence with pigeons.
