A Boy, A Chicken & The Lion of Judah

by Roberta Kalechofsky

Meet a nine-year old boy named Ari, who lives in Israel on a Moshav in the Negev Desert. Every spring and autumn an exciting event occurs where a world famous migration of 500 million birds of 200 different species fly over. Through watching these birds, Ari decides to become a vegetarian. This whimsical and touching tale of his effort to "own his own stomach" shows the moral and social challenges Ari faces with his family and community. Children learn that a child can make their own choices and that people who have differences can love each other even when they don't understand each other.
