Basecamp Community Assembly

October 8, 2026

This week at Basecamp: on Thursday, we have bakbasecamp an Open Kitchen Take-Over by our beloved @whilekitchening crew, the first of their Kitchen-ing Series: Zine Making as Collective Methodology. They propose to use their upcoming three sessions as collective study spaces to revisit what they have done in and around the kitchen, and to rethink what an archive can be. Through zine-making, they explore how embodied experiences and situated knowledge can be collectively recorded, shared, and reimagined. On Saturday we have another special program: Designing Justice, in collaboration with @nieuweinstituut and @coloredqollective. In the lead-up to the Building Public Truths exhibition, a diverse group of experts and people with personal experience come together to reflect on 'designing justice' and the systems that structure freedom and unfreedom in society. How can we challenge these systems, with their violent colonial origins and their impact on contemporary discrimination? And how can designers and other citizens develop alternatives to ensure greater justice in society? Ethnic profiling and police violence are not isolated incidents, but the result of structural 'design flaws'. Patterns emerge that shed light on the relationships between conventional law enforcement, systemic racism, and the pursuit of social justice. Under the banner of designing justice, designers, researchers, activists and members of affected communities come together to share insights from their respective fields and to envisage ways of living together that potentially ensure greater justice. You are warmly welcomed to the symposium that takes place in the afternoon. Sign up via the link in our bio. See you at Basecamp! Design by @insan_larasati linktr.ee/BAKbasisvooractuelekunst
