BILLY & TINA'S ZOO PROTEST

Next protest: SUNDAY, Oct 4 / 10 to 12 noon The elephants at the Los Angeles Zoo were removed and sent to the bleak Tulsa Zoo in May 2025, even despite calls from experts all over the world to send them to an elephant sanctuary instead. The city-owned zoo even ignored its own city council when it asked for better options to be explored. The zoo director Denise Verret claimed to be making the decision based on Billy and Tina's "best interests," but how can that be when sanctuary was never seriously looked into? Billy and Tina are gone, but 1,700 animals of over 270 species remain at the zoo. All of them are subject to the same lack of empathy and concern for their interests. The zoo is a business, plain and simple, and businesses look after their bottom lines, not the concerns of their commodities. We are asking that the zoo 1) officially commits to never holding elephants again 2) ends live exotic animal captivity for entertainment and transitions to an educational conservation and biodiversity center of local species and habitats.
