Activists Occupy Pig Gassing Machines At Australian Slaughterhouse

Animal activists from Farm Transparency Project (FTP) have occupied machines used to gas pigs at a slaughterhouse in Northern Victoria, Australia. In a recent action, they entered the Benalla slaughterhouse, chaining themselves to the CO2 gassing machines. Some activists also gained access to the roof of the building, while others stood outside with placards. Police intervened, resulting in seven arrests, including FTP executive director Chris Delforce.

The campaign against CO2 gassing machines continues, as FTP aims to ban this method which is used to stun pigs before slaughter. Despite being labeled as “humane” by some, experts point out the inhumane and cruel aspects of this method, such as causing pigs to burn from the inside out. Footage captured during these actions has shed light on the distressing final moments of these animals, sparking calls for change and animal welfare standards to be re-evaluated by major brands in Australia and beyond.
