Americans Have Had Enough of Dolphins in Tanks, New PETA Poll Shows
PETA • Sep 10, 2026
A new survey conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of PETA reveals that an overwhelming 92% of Americans believe dolphins belong in the ocean, not in tanks. 80% of respondents support releasing captive dolphins from marine parks and resorts or sending them to seaside sanctuaries. The survey also found that a majority of Americans oppose breeding programs for dolphins in captivity, have concerns about animals at marine parks, and would view these facilities negatively after learning about the exploitation and cruelty involved.
The contrast between the natural life of dolphins in the ocean and their confined existence in marine parks is stark. Seaside sanctuaries provide a better future for these intelligent and social animals, allowing them to experience autonomy and natural environments while receiving expert care. The survey results highlight growing public awareness and support for ending the confinement of dolphins for entertainment, pushing for a shift towards sending them to sanctuaries where they can live free from exploitation.
