Amsterdam City Council has passed a new motion building on its endorsement of the global Plant Based Treaty, introduced by the Party for the Animals. The motion aims to accelerate action on food emissions by examining the Treaty's 40 proposals and implementing them locally where possible, while advocating for national action on others.

The city has committed to increasing the share of plant-based protein in citizens' diets to 60% by 2030, with plant-based options being expanded in municipal catering, public institutions, schools, and healthcare facilities. Amsterdam's endorsement of the Treaty is part of its Food Strategy, which focuses on shifting towards a more sustainable and plant-based food system. Other Dutch cities, including Groningen, Nijmegen, and Haarlem, have also endorsed the Plant Based Treaty.
