Analysis Finds Dairy & Coffee Giants Are Turning a Blind Eye to Methane Emissions

A recent analysis by the Changing Markets Foundation reveals that major dairy producers and coffee chains are failing to address their methane emissions effectively. While some companies acknowledge the issue, only Nestlé and Danone claim to have reduced their methane emissions. Lack of clear targets, action plans, and transparency on emissions are prevalent in the industry, with only six out of 20 companies tracking methane emissions directly.

Coffee chains rank poorly in methane reduction efforts, with Dunkin' scoring zero points for its lack of targets and plans. Danone tops the list with 59 out of 100 points, being the only company with a methane-specific target. The analysis also highlights the influence of meat and dairy interests in blocking regulations to reduce methane emissions. Given the urgent need to curb methane emissions to combat climate change, consumers are urged to push for change by reducing animal product consumption and holding companies accountable for their emissions.
