Animal Agriculture Panel At NY Climate Week Confronted For ‘Greenwashing’

An animal agriculture panel at New York City’s Climate Week was accused of “greenwashing” solutions to issues caused by the sector itself. During a Q&A session, Plant Based Treaty campaigner Kimmy Cushman called out the panel for being paid by multinational corporations to raise profits rather than address the climate crisis. The panel suggested solutions such as breeding cows to produce less methane and creating “methane vaccines” to mitigate the environmental impact of the industry.

Cushman and other audience members expressed concerns about the panel’s promotion of increasing meat and dairy consumption worldwide, despite the negative consequences for the environment and public health. Animal agriculture is a leading cause of greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and species extinction. Cushman emphasized the need to reject the industry's proposed solutions and instead focus on reducing meat and dairy production to combat climate change and protect the planet.
