Animal Testing Lab Transforms Into Rescued Animal Sanctuary

A former animal testing lab in Oklahoma has been transformed into a rescued animal sanctuary by animal rights lawyer Shannon Keith. Previously, the lab practiced euthanization on the dogs and cats used for experiments, but after Keith's Beagle Freedom Project offered to rescue the animals, the owner, John Riner, decided to give them a second chance. Negotiating to buy only the property and not the business, Keith became the "owner" of over 200 dogs and cats living on the land.

With the purchase completed, the sanctuary, named Freedom Fields, now provides a safe home for a variety of animals who suffered anxiety and health complications from the tests they underwent. Keith has also been working on the Beagle Freedom Bill, which has passed in 13 states and aims to have test labs offer healthy animals for adoption after experiments are completed. Her ultimate goal is to have the bill become federal law to further protect animals used in testing.
