Anti-Firework Petition With 1 Million Signatures Delivered To UK Government

A petition calling for greater regulation of fireworks in the UK was delivered to the UK government with 1 million signatures. The Firework Campaign behind the petition wants private firework use to be limited to special occasions like Bonfire Night, Chinese New Year, New Year’s Eve, and Diwali. The campaign also calls for firework displays to require a license and a reduction in the maximum decibel level of fireworks.

The petition, started by Julie Doome in 2013, has garnered widespread support from those concerned about the distress caused to animals and vulnerable individuals by fireworks. Firework displays are known to cause serious problems for companion animals, leading to lasting noise phobias and even accidents such as animals running away and getting hit by cars. Wildlife is also impacted, with birds flying into buildings and farmed animals suffering greatly during firework displays. Animal advocacy organizations are calling for alternatives to conventional fireworks, such as laser light shows, to avoid these negative consequences.
