In May 27, 2025, the Owl and Pussycat Sanctuary near Byron Bay, Australia, rescued a newborn goat with severe health issues. The baby goat, named Cherry, was infested with lice and suffering from diarrhea, coughing, and nasal discharge, putting her life at risk. Weighing only 2 kilograms and with her umbilical cord still attached, Cherry received immediate treatment with antibiotics, anti-diarrheal medication, and electrolytes to save her life.

Despite the initial dire condition, Cherry showed signs of recovery, much to the relief of the sanctuary staff. The founder mentioned that Cherry seemed to think of her as her mother, highlighting the emotional bond formed during her rescue. As of June 13, Cherry's health had visibly improved, with her digestive issues settling down and her overall condition getting stronger. Despite the ongoing isolation for infection control, Cherry's growth and progress were remarkable considering her critical condition just three weeks prior.
