The APAC Society for Cellular Agriculture (APAC-SCA) has been granted Observer status with the Codex Alimentarius Commission, giving the association a formal channel to provide technical input on international food safety and regulatory standards for cultivated meat, seafood, and precision fermentation. As an observer organization, APAC-SCA can attend relevant committee meetings, submit comments, and participate in discussions that influence the Commission's standard-setting work, despite not having voting rights. The association, founded in March 2022 by companies in the cultivated meat and seafood industry, represents over ten member organizations in the Asia-Pacific region and has focused on regulatory coordination work.

Through the APAC Regulatory Coordination Forum, in partnership with the Good Food Institute APAC, APAC-SCA has addressed key regulatory priorities such as cell line development and cell culture media in white papers. The Codex designation allows the association to expand its work globally and advocate for consistent regulatory frameworks in APAC markets like Japan and South Korea, which are still developing pathways for cultivated meat approvals. APAC-SCA's Program Director, Peter Yu, emphasized the importance of cellular agriculture and the organization's commitment to supporting science-based, transparent, and internationally harmonized approaches to food safety and regulatory oversight at the global level.
