Atlas the Calf Rescued from Dairy Industry by Queensland Sanctuary

Atlas, a calf, was rescued from the dairy industry by Happily Heifer After, a Queensland-based sanctuary, on June 7, 2025. He was separated from his mother shortly after birth and was slated to be "culled" with other surplus male calves. However, when Atlas fell gravely ill, a compassionate individual intervened, leading to his transfer to a calf hospital pen for treatment. Despite facing health challenges like a parasitic infection and an abscess, Atlas fought hard and began to recover.

The sanctuary, now caring for Atlas, highlighted the plight of male calves in the dairy industry, who are often killed simply for being born male. Atlas's survivor story shed light on the hundreds of thousands of male calves culled yearly in Australia. Happily Heifer After is currently fundraising for more facilities to help other animals in need, like Atlas, who continues to live life to the fullest despite his ongoing health battles.
