Award-Winning Documentary On India’s Dairy Industry Removed By YouTube

YouTube removed the award-winning documentary, Maa Ka Doodh, on India's dairy industry due to alleged policy violations. The film, which explores the ethical, environmental, and economic consequences of increased dairy consumption in India, was produced by doctor-turned-animal rights activist Harsha Atmakuri. After a campaign by animal rights activists called "milk is not vegetarian" led to YouTube deleting the filmmakers' channel, the film was eventually reinstated following public outcry.

Atmakuri called the censorship a sign of a failing democracy and emphasized the interconnectedness of India's dairy and beef industries. The film, which has garnered millions of views and won awards, sheds light on the reliance of the beef export industry on dairy production in India. Despite the removal from YouTube, the filmmakers urged viewers to watch the documentary through alternative channels and emphasized the importance of not silencing critical perspectives on animal agriculture.
