B Corp Certification Gets a Major Update with New Standards to Tackle Urgent Global Issues

B Lab has introduced updated standards for B Corp Certification, focusing on urgent global issues like climate crisis and social inequality. The new framework emphasizes specific standards across key Impact Topics and requires businesses to show continuous improvement over time. The changes also include mandatory climate action plans, due diligence on human rights impacts, and third-party verification for certification decisions, addressing concerns about credibility and greenwashing.

The revamped certification standards tighten eligibility criteria and ban companies deriving 1% or more of revenue from ineligible industries. Businesses currently not certified as B Corps can start the process using B Lab’s new digital platform to align with the updated criteria. B Lab aims for the new standards to serve as a roadmap for leadership on social and environmental issues, encouraging businesses to drive progress in addressing the challenges of the present time.
