Bananatex and Balenciaga Develop Sneakers Made From Banana Fibers

Swiss fashion company QWSTION has partnered with Balenciaga to create sneakers made from Bananatex, a sustainable fabric derived from Abacá banana plants grown in the Philippines. The eco-friendly shoes are a plant-based alternative to Balenciaga's popular Triple S sneakers and are available in black and beige at Balenciaga's physical and online stores. Bananatex is a plastic-free and biodegradable material that was developed after three years of research, providing a circular alternative to synthetic fabrics and winning multiple sustainability and design awards.

Bananatex is part of the FIBRAL Material Alliance, a global network promoting underrepresented plant-based fibers. The material was also certified by The Vegan Society's Vegan Trademark, demonstrating its commitment to producing vegan-friendly and environmentally-friendly products. This collaboration between QWSTION and Balenciaga showcases the possibilities of sustainable fashion and highlights the potential for more eco-conscious products to enter the market in the future.
