Behind Raising Cane’s Chicken: Drownings, Scaldings, and Neglect

Federal records reveal horrific cruelty to animals at Raising Cane's supplier, Bachoco OK Foods, including chickens being left to die in dumpsters, violently handled, and subjected to failures in the slaughter process. Chickens are curious and social beings, but the meat industry treats them as objects by overcrowding them in filthy sheds and breeding them to grow unnaturally large. Inspectors found live chickens piled in dumpsters, birds being slammed into metal shackles, and conscious chickens being submerged in scalding water.

Every chicken is an individual with preferences, fears, and relationships. Just like dogs, chickens recognize their human guardians, form friendships, and feel pain and joy. If you wouldn't eat a dog, you shouldn't consume chickens from places like Raising Cane's.
