Beyond Meat Still Owes Vegadelphia $15.4M After Judge Rejects Lost Expansion Damages

A federal judge in Massachusetts has reduced the damages Beyond Meat owes to Vegadelphia Foods from $23.5 million to $37,500, while upholding a $15.4 million award of Beyond Meat’s profits. The jury found Beyond Meat guilty of willfully infringing on Vegadelphia’s trademark through its advertising, leading to the lawsuit.

The bulk of the original damages were based on Vegadelphia's claim that Beyond Meat's infringement disrupted a planned expansion project. However, the judge deemed the estimation of reaching a $100 million valuation too speculative. The judge also rejected Vegadelphia’s request for further damages, citing the scale difference between the two companies and a lack of evidence of consumer confusion. Beyond Meat may still challenge the ruling through post-trial motions or appeals.
