Blackbird Foods Adds Certified Organic Seitan Block to Whole Foods Northeast

Blackbird Foods, a New York-based plant-based food company, has introduced its first certified organic seitan product to the US retail market. The Organic Original Seitan Block is now available at Whole Foods Market stores across the Northeast. This 12oz refrigerated block contains 76g of organic plant protein and can be sliced, chopped, marinated, or cooked in various dishes like stir-fries, sandwiches, and salads. The company's existing lineup at Whole Foods already includes Original Seitan Shreds and Chili Lime Seitan Shreds.

Blackbird Foods was founded by chefs Emanuel Storch and Mike Pease, who initially supplied seitan to local restaurants in NYC before expanding into retail. The company manufactures its products at its own facility in New York and now has distribution in over 4,000 stores nationally, including Target, Sprouts Farmers Market, and Whole Foods Market. In 2025, Blackbird Foods was acquired by private equity firm Ahimsa Companies, which also owns Simulate, the company behind the Nuggs brand.
