Typcal, a Brazilian startup focusing on mycoprotein production, has been selected to participate in the biotech incubator biotope, receiving a total of €350,000 in investment and support. The company has developed innovative fungi strains that grow quickly and can thrive on various feedstocks, allowing for efficient and sustainable protein and fiber production. Through the program, Typcal will receive direct funding, as well as tailored support such as mentoring and access to expertise.

The biotope program, established by VIB in 2022, aims to assist early-stage biotech ventures in advancing planetary health and preparing them for seed-round funding within 18 months. Previous participants in the program have seen success in securing follow-on funding, showcasing the effectiveness of biotope in helping startups grow and succeed. Typcal's CEO, Paulo Ibri, expressed excitement about the opportunity to scale faster and bring their mycoprotein platform to the market with the support provided by biotope.
