Brevel Expands Seed Round to $25M to Accelerate Commercialization of Microalgae Proteins

Brevel, a climate food tech company, has raised over $5 million in a seed extension round, bringing the total seed funding to $25 million. The funding will be used to develop microalgae proteins for food and beverage applications and accelerate the commercialization of the company's products. The recent success of the company includes the completion of a commercial facility, successful scale-up of technology, and forming a commercial agreement with The Central Bottling Company.

Brevel has proprietary technology that produces nutrient-rich microalgae in indoor bioreactors using light and sugar-based fermentation. The company produces microalgae protein isolate powder with excellent functional and nutritional properties, along with co-products such as functional oil, antioxidants, and nutritional fibers. Generating revenue through co-products allows Brevel to achieve price parity for the protein isolate and each co-product, similar to the soy protein business model.
