Bunge Agrees to Sell European Margarines and Spreads Business to Vandemoortele

Global agribusiness and food company Bunge has agreed to sell its European margarines and spreads business to Vandemoortele, a family-owned food group in Europe known for its presence in margarines and plant-based fats. The acquisition will include Bunge's operations in Germany, Finland, Poland, and Hungary, as well as manufacturing sites and a portfolio of 20 consumer brands, with a turnover of over €450 million and employing more than 800 people. Vandemoortele aims to support the European food sector's shift towards sustainable plant-based foods, expanding its presence in Central Eastern Europe and Scandinavia.

Bunge, known for products like BeLeaf Plant-Based Butter, launched in Europe in 2023 and North America in the past year, will be shifting focus to its integrated value chains in oilseeds and grains, as well as oils, emulsifiers, and proteins B2B ingredients businesses. The margarines and spreads business is expected to develop further under new ownership, with the acquisition subject to merger control and expected to close in 2026. The terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
