Canada is investing in sustainable faba bean protein development to expand plant-based ingredient options. The project, led by Protein Industries Canada, aims to create high-protein, neutral-flavored faba protein ingredients for use in consumer-packaged goods. With a partnership between Griffith Foods, BFY Proteins, Botaniline, and Faba Canada, the initiative focuses on improving faba bean processing to produce allergen-free and lower-sodium ingredients suitable for various food products.

The $7.7 million project is supported by the Canadian government through Protein Industries Canada, with additional funding from project partners. By developing a closed-loop value chain, the project aims to benefit farmers, processors, and consumers while boosting Canada's competitiveness in the global market for sustainable plant-based food ingredients. With a focus on sustainability, the project aims to create a sustainable future by providing healthier plant-based food options and strengthening the country's position in the global food sector.
