Carrefour Spain Introduces “Clearly Superior” 3D Bio-Printed Plant-Based Bacon at Almost Same Price as Original

Carrefour Spain has introduced a new 3D bio-printed plant-based bacon, created through a partnership between two Spanish companies. This innovative technology aims to produce sustainable and nutritious food on an industrial scale, with the vegan bacon now available in Carrefour stores across Spain. The companies plan to expand their offerings to include vegetable analogues of foie, tuna, shrimp, and salmon in the future.

The plant-based 3D bioprinting process reduces environmental impact by sourcing raw materials from European suppliers and producing analogues efficiently. The vegan bacon, packaged in 120-gram trays, contains less vegetable fat than traditional pork-based bacon and is priced similarly. The product has also been recognized as a finalist in the innovation category of the international V-Label awards, showcasing the growth and potential of the plant-based food sector.
