Cats Are Getting Sick And Dying From Bird Flu In The US

At least 14 cats in the US have fallen ill or died from a multi-state outbreak of H5N1 bird flu. The FDA believes that the cats became sick after consuming raw animal products, and plans to order manufacturers of raw food for companion animals to take additional precautions.

The infected cats were reported in California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington State. The virus has also been detected in other mammals and birds, with 60 cats testing positive for H5N1 so far. While the public health risk remains low, pet owners are advised to seek veterinary care if their cat or dog shows symptoms such as a low appetite, difficulty breathing, or fever.
