Cell Manufacturing Innovator CellRev Enters Administration

CellRev, a UK company specializing in producing proprietary media additives for cell manufacturing, has entered administration after failing to secure Series A funding due to not meeting commercial milestones quickly enough. Despite being founded in 2018 as a spinout from Newcastle University and achieving goals such as developing a continuous cell manufacturing platform, the company struggled to adapt to industry shifts from late 2022 and ultimately ceased trading.

Although CellRev had raised significant funding and secured strategic partnerships, including a failed venture with BSF Enterprise to launch a mass production company for cultivated meat, the company was unable to sustain operations. Despite attempts to pivot to a reagents-only model and explore life science opportunities, CellRev ultimately ran out of time and has ceased trading, with administrators managing the company's assets and all nine employees being made redundant. CEO Chris Green expressed his appreciation for the company's supporters and the progress made during its time in operation.
