Chef Mark McKinney Is Opening a Vegan Restaurant in Philadelphia This Fall

Vegan chef Mark McKinney is transitioning his successful pop-up, Primary Plant Based, into a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The new restaurant will be located at 161 W Girard Ave on Philadelphia’s Kensington-Northern Liberties border and is scheduled to open in fall 2021 as a BYOB establishment. Prior to this venture, McKinney oversaw multiple kitchens as the culinary director for Stephen Simons and David Frank-owned restaurants.

The menu at Primary Plant Based will feature vegan dishes that were popular at the pop-up, such as Yuba noodle salad, bitter greens Caesar salad, maple-glazed mushrooms & heirloom polenta, and more. The restaurant will also include a charcoal-fired grill and wood-burning oven, as well as a weekly menu that changes based on seasonal, local ingredients.
