Complaints About the Worrying State of Sun Bear at Madrid Zoo Aquarium 

The Spanish animal protection organization FAADA raised concerns about the worrying state of a sun bear at the Zoo Aquarium in Madrid, Spain. Images showed the bear displaying repetitive behavior, a sign of stress and lack of well-being, with zoo workers admitting the animal was bored. Sun bears are classified as "vulnerable" due to hunting and habitat loss, and in zoos, they are often not provided with suitable environments to exhibit their natural behaviors. FAADA plans to investigate the situation and ensure the bear's conditions are improved for its physical and mental well-being.

The presence of stereotypes in captive animals suggests that zoos may not be meeting legal requirements to provide adequate conditions for their biological needs. FAADA emphasized that observing animals with stereotypes is not uncommon in zoos worldwide and is a serious issue that needs to be addressed for the welfare of the animals.
