Cultivated Fish Food For Cats Set For US And Singapore Release

Singaporean company UMAMI Bioworks and US company Friends & Family Pet Food Co have collaborated to create the world's first cultivated fish cat treats. These treats, made from fish cells cultured in a bioreactor, are set to be released in Singapore and San Francisco early next year. They are rich in microalgae and essential nutrients to provide high-quality nutrition for cats and are awaiting approval from the US Food and Drug Administration.

The cultivation of fish for pet food aims to provide a more sustainable alternative to traditional fish-based cat food. The seafood industry has devastating impacts on marine life, with billions of fishes killed each year for human and animal consumption. Cultivated fish pet food aims to alleviate the ecological pressure on oceans by offering a more ethical and environmentally friendly protein source for pets. UMAMI Bioworks also plans to make cultivated fish available for human consumption in the future.
