Czech Industry Body Calls on Government to Close Gaps in New EU Meat Labelling Rules

The Czech Chamber of Alternative Proteins (ČKAP) is calling on the Czech Ministry of Agriculture to address gaps in the new EU meat labelling rules. The chamber, along with 18 other organizations, is specifically concerned about issues related to flavour descriptors, hybrid products, and the pre-emptive restriction on cultivated foods. They argue that the current text creates legal uncertainty, inconsistent enforcement, and compliance costs for businesses.

One of the main concerns is around how flavour and aroma labelling will be affected by the new regulation, especially for products that traditionally use animal-related terms to describe their taste. The chamber is seeking clarifications on these issues to ensure that manufacturers, retailers, and exporters are not negatively impacted by the new rules. The full revision of the Common Market Organisation regulation is currently in progress, with a committee vote expected by the end of 2026 and a plenary vote anticipated in early 2027.
