French vegan cheesemaker Jay&Joy has received €2M in funding and acquired its rival, Les Nouveaux Affineurs, to expand its presence across Europe. This move comes after Jay&Joy faced challenges in early 2023 due to cases of listeriosis linked to its cheeses, causing the company to stop production and enter receivership. However, with new funding and the acquisition of Les Nouveaux Affineurs, Jay&Joy has been able to turn its fortunes around and increase its production capacity and product portfolio.

The takeover will allow the companies to create a larger industrial scale-up with a wide range of products and technologies. Jay&Joy plans to introduce four new products this year, including mozzarella and exclusive formats for foodservice. The latest funding round will support these expansions and help Jay&Joy become a leading player in the plant-based food sector in Europe, amidst a competitive market dominated by players like Violife and Sheese.
