Danish Microalgae Firm Algiecel Appoints CFO and Board Chair Ahead of Commercial Scale-Up

Danish microalgae firm Algiecel has appointed Mette Ingeman Pedersen as Chief Financial Officer and Tove Feld as Chairperson of its Board of Directors as it prepares for commercial production of its marine bioactives platform. Pedersen brings over 20 years of finance experience, including roles at companies like Topsoe and Saxo Bank, while Feld has 35 years of experience in energy and infrastructure, with previous roles at Ørsted and Siemens Wind Power. Their appointments align with Algiecel's goal of establishing a reliable industrial platform for microalgae-based ingredients in various sectors.

Algiecel's photobioreactors cultivate microalgae using artificial light, water, and captured CO2, providing a more predictable supply compared to marine-sourced ingredients. The company recently raised DKK 60m (€8m) to support technology development and scale-up. CEO Susanne Palsten Buchardt emphasized the need for operational discipline, financial rigor, and industrial experience to successfully transition from pilot to commercial production, highlighting the importance of the new leadership team in achieving this goal.
