Dinghy Spent Nearly 46 Years Being Used for Entertainment. Now, She’s Dead

Dinghy, a dolphin trapped at Dolphin Life in Key Largo, Florida for nearly 46 years, has passed away. She was torn from her natural habitat in 1980 and forced to perform in swim-with-dolphins programs and other stressful interactions. During her captivity, Dinghy gave birth to multiple calves, all of which are now separated and trapped in other facilities. Her death, along with the deaths of over 20 other dolphins at Dolphin Life, serves as a stark reminder of the exploitation and suffering endured by marine mammals in captivity.

Close-contact encounters with dolphins not only pose risks to both animals and humans but also perpetuate the harmful belief that dolphins exist solely for human entertainment. By refusing to support facilities that exploit animals for entertainment, we can prevent more dolphins from suffering the same fate as Dinghy. It is important to speak up for dolphins and advocate for their right to live freely in their natural environment, rather than being imprisoned and used for public amusement.
