Dutch Bros Coffee has decided to end its surcharge for vegan milk following pressure from PETA, an animal rights charity. In response to PETA's urging, Dutch Bros eliminated the extra charge, recognizing the impact of dairy on the climate crisis and extreme weather events like wildfires in California. PETA praised Dutch Bros for their decision and hopes that other coffee chains will follow suit in eliminating surcharges for dairy-free milk options.

While some coffee shops still charge an additional fee for plant-based milk, many others have already chosen to offer it for free. Campaign group No Milk Tax recently published a report highlighting which US coffee chains still charge extra for dairy-free milk, with some chains like Pret, Panera, and Starbucks already eliminating the surcharge. This move not only benefits vegans, but also those with lactose intolerance and dairy allergies, making it easier for all customers to enjoy their coffee beverages.
