Dutch City of Nijmegen Bans Meat Ads and Endorses Plant Based Treaty

The Dutch city of Nijmegen recently endorsed the Plant Based Treaty, becoming the 37th city globally and the latest in the Netherlands to do so. As part of this endorsement, Nijmegen implemented a ban on meat and fossil fuel advertisements in public spaces. The city's commitment to sustainability, as seen through its European Green Capital Award in 2018, aligns with the treaty's principles of reducing intensive livestock farming, promoting a plant-based food system, and supporting reforestation efforts.

To celebrate the endorsement, Nijmegen launched the plant-based Nimma Sandwich and expressed its dedication to a healthier and more sustainable future for all residents. The treaty, supported by the City Council Member from the Party for the Animals Nijmegen, aims to create a more animal-friendly environment and encourage a shift towards plant-based diets for climate action and animal protection.
