EU-Backed ProFuse Project Delivers Non-GMO Cattle Cell Line for Cultivated Meat

The EU-backed PROFUSE project has developed two technologies for cultivated meat producers: a media supplement to speed up muscle cell maturation and a bovine muscle cell line that does not require genetic modification. These advancements aim to address the challenges of reproducing muscle texture, structure, and protein at scale in cultivated meat production. The project, coordinated by ProFuse Technology, has shown promising results in reducing production costs and increasing muscle yield for cultivated meat producers.

ProFuse has expanded its muscle-cultivation expertise beyond cultivated meat into drug and dietary supplement discovery, focusing on muscle loss associated with weight-loss drugs. The company aims to utilize its findings in muscle protection and growth across various applications, emphasizing the complementary nature of different research areas. Despite cost and regulatory challenges in the cultivated meat industry, ProFuse sees the potential for significant growth, with a projected market value of 22 billion euros by 2050.
