Evidence of Animal Abuse at RSPCA-Approved Abattoirs in England Leads to their Suspension

Animal rights group Animal Rising released hidden camera footage showing animals being abused at RSPCA-approved slaughterhouses across England. The footage revealed cows, pigs, and sheep being mistreated, including the incorrect stunning of animals before slaughter and the use of electric prods on animals. As a result, the RSPCA suspended certification for three of the slaughterhouses.

The investigation by Animal Rising also uncovered widespread factory farming and industrial levels of animal cruelty at RSPCA Assured farms. Lead investigator Rose Patterson criticized the RSPCA for not addressing the inhumane practices within its facilities. The RSPCA has launched an immediate investigation into the allegations and has alerted other accreditation schemes. Additionally, they have contacted the Food Standards Agency to address potential breaches of the law at the slaughterhouses.
