Chemical company Evonik has extended its partnership with AMSilk to produce vegan silk proteins at industrial scale at its Slovakian biotech production hub. The facility is equipped with advanced infrastructure and renewable energy, enabling the monthly output of several tons of silk proteins. The high-performance silk proteins are made using precision fermentation and meet certified industrial quality standards for spinning-grade biomaterials, supporting AMSilk’s market entry phase.

AMSilk transforms the silk protein powder produced by Evonik into high-performance yarns for use in premium fashion and automotive interiors. The biomaterials are biodegradable, derived from renewable plant-based carbon, and leave no microplastics at the end of their life cycle. AMSilk recently secured €52 million to scale the industrial production of its materials, and the partnership with Evonik aims to increase output and efficiency of the production process, ensuring reliable supply for customers.
