Exclusive: Andfoods Readies Singapore Launch of Black Gram Whipped Cream After Mars Patent Citation

Andfoods, a New Zealand startup, is set to launch its lentil-based whipped cream in Singapore following a mention in a Mars patent filing for plant-based ice creams made from black gram protein. The company, which spun out of Massey University's Riddet Institute in 2023, uses a patented fermentation process to enhance the functionality and taste of black gram protein, making it suitable for dairy-free applications. The whipped cream, designed for professional foodservice markets, has already raised NZ$4M in funding and is preparing for a Series A round later this year.

The focus on functionality, taste, and affordability in the alternative protein category has made Andfoods' whipped cream market-ready, with the upcoming launch in Singapore attracting investor interest.
