Experimenter Kicked Off Her Own Cruel Experiments at UMass Chan

A University of Massachusetts Chan School of Medicine experimenter, Milena Bogunovic, was removed from her own experiments due to a staff member's repeated violations of regulations regarding euthanasia techniques for mice. Bogunovic has received nearly $5 million in federal funding to conduct experiments involving inducing intestinal diseases in mice, cutting them open, manipulating their insides, and ultimately killing them in cruel and pointless procedures. These experiments, supposedly aimed at understanding inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal immunity, and gastrointestinal inflammation, have been deemed unreliable for predicting human responses to treatment.

The staff member responsible for euthanizing the mice improperly was caught multiple times cramming too many mice into a euthanasia chamber and failing to follow required secondary euthanasia methods, leading to the possibility that some mice may have been alive when frozen. Bogunovic's experiments have been described as torment rather than science, with PETA calling for UMass Chan to switch to human-relevant, non-animal research methods.
