FAIRR Reports Widening ‘Credibility Gap’ In Regenerative Agriculture Roll-Out

A new report by FAIRR has found a widening "credibility gap" between the regenerative farming claims made by major food companies and reality. Despite outward enthusiasm, few companies are living up to the hype of regenerative agriculture. FAIRR assessed 78 agri-food companies and found that while many identify reducing agrochemical inputs as a goal, few have set targets for pesticide reduction or outcome-based goals like reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Some businesses have dropped or revised pre-existing targets and commitments related to regenerative farming. Overall, quantified regenerative agriculture targets have decreased from 35 percent of assessed companies in 2023 to just 28 percent in 2026. FAIRR is emphasizing the importance of credibility in initiatives related to regenerative agriculture and the need for fair compensation for farmers putting in extra efforts and facing risks, particularly amidst geopolitical instability and price volatility.
