Finnish Mycoprotein Ingredient PEKILO® Makes Pet Treat Debut Ahead of Interzoo

Finnish biotech company Enifer and pet food manufacturer Rovio Pet Foods have collaborated to develop a semi-moist dog treat using Enifer's mycoprotein ingredient, PEKILO®. This marks the first application of the ingredient in a finished pet treat format, showcasing its high protein content and amino acid profile comparable to meat. The project was funded by Business Finland and follows Enifer's successful completion of a commercial production batch of PEKILO®.

Enifer has spent years building a case for PEKILO® in animal nutrition, conducting feeding studies and participating in accelerators to support the ingredient's positioning. The collaboration with Rovio Pet Foods allowed for the development of a functional treat with high digestibility and strong palatability, setting the stage for future applications in pet nutrition. Samples of the new dog treat will be available at Interzoo 2026, where Enifer will be present to discuss PEKILO®'s potential in the pet food industry.
