Foire de Maurs: Fondation Brigitte Bardot calls for an end to horse slaughter

The Fondation Brigitte Bardot has called for an end to horse slaughter after documenting serious cases of animal mistreatment and welfare breaches at the Foire de Maurs in France. The investigation revealed horses being subjected to violent handling, overcrowded and stressful conditions, and poor health. The fair sees hundreds of equids traded, with many ending up in fattening centers or slaughterhouses, leading to long-distance transport and significant stress for the animals.
As horse-meat consumption declines and attitudes towards horses change, the organization is urging for an end to horse slaughter and events that contribute to this trade. Eurogroup for Animals supports this call for stronger protection of horses throughout their lives, including during transport, at markets, and at the end of their lives. The petition to end horse slaughter and the trade enabling it aims to safeguard the welfare of these sentient beings.
