Food System Innovations (FSI) has received a $2 million grant from the Bezos Earth Fund’s AI for Climate and Nature Grand Challenge to improve sustainable proteins with the help of artificial intelligence. The platform aims to develop AI solutions that address important environmental challenges in the food industry and accelerate the development of sustainable protein products with improved quality, taste, and cost. Through their NECTAR program, FSI plans to build an AI model that connects molecular structure, flavor, texture, and consumer preference to enhance sustainable food solutions.

Supported by the Bezos Earth Fund, the research project will collaborate with computer scientists at Stanford University to translate AI innovation into real-world impact. The AI for Climate and Nature Grand Challenge, a $100 million initiative launched last year, connects innovators with resources and mentorship from technology partners to address climate change and biodiversity loss through artificial intelligence. This grant will allow FSI to further refine formulations, enhance flavor, and make climate-friendly foods more appealing to consumers, ultimately contributing to sustainable food systems and conservation efforts.
