For Its New Factory, Planted Zeroes in On Germany’s Leading Plant-Based Market

Swiss meat analogue maker, Planted, is expanding its production by opening a new factory in Germany, which is Europe's leading market for vegan food. The new facility is expected to begin production in the first quarter of 2025 and will have the capacity to produce 20 tonnes of meat analogues every day. Planted is known for its innovative whole-cut steak, made using a proprietary fermentation process that grows "biostructured proteins" and is aimed at surpassing animal meat in terms of flavor, sustainability, health, productivity, and price.

The company's decision to open a factory in Germany aligns with the country's increasing appetite for plant-based meat, with the sector growing by 42% since 2022. Planted's products have already gained popularity in Germany, making it one of the top 10 best-selling meat analogue makers in the country. With a focus on sustainability, the new factory in Memmingen will be almost entirely carbon-neutral and will contribute to reducing emissions and water usage, further solidifying Germany's position as a key market for plant-based foods.
