Fox Hunting Is Still Terrorizing Wildlife Despite UK Ban, Charity Warns

The League Against Cruel Sports has warned that despite the ban on fox hunting in the UK, it continues to have a harmful impact on wildlife and rural communities. The organization has collected data on suspected illegal hunting, with 180 reports coming in from 40 counties across the country. These incidents include thousands of foxes being illegally killed, as well as reports of hunts intimidating individuals, impacting infrastructure, and harassing other animals.

Hunting groups have been exploiting loopholes in the 2004 Hunting Act to continue participating in bloodsports, with claims of engaging in "trail hunting" albeit often leading to the death of real animals. The League Against Cruel Sports is advocating for amendments to the Hunting Act to prevent these illegal activities, including a reckless provision to stop trail hunting from being used as an excuse for fox deaths. Public support for the ban on fox hunting remains strong, with the majority of people, including rural residents, in favor of upholding the ban to protect wildlife and communities.
