France’s Plantex Launches Natural Smoke Flavouring Free of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

French plant extract manufacturer Plantex has launched a new range called Smok’EXTRACT, providing a natural and innovative alternative to conventional smoke flavourings. The launch comes after the European Commission declined to renew the marketing authorisation for eight primary smoke flavourings due to concerns about their polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons content and genotoxicity.

Plantex's Smok’EXTRACT uses a combination of heated wood extracts and various complementary ingredients to create an aromatic result comparable to traditional smoking. The rise of plant-based flavors in the food industry is reflected in this move, as consumers increasingly choose products that are free from harmful substances and are more environmentally sustainable. Plantex's new product aligns with these trends, offering a natural, PAH-free alternative to smoke flavourings for use in a variety of food products.
