German Dairy Company Opens Plant-Based Facility For Milk And Yogurt

German dairy company Bauer Group has opened a new production facility for plant-based milk and yogurt, responding to the increasing demand for plant-based alternatives. The facility, located in Wasserburg am Inn, aims to complement rather than replace the company's existing dairy interests and will source ingredients from local farms to shorten the supply chain. The company's CEO, Heiko Modell, believes that regional production of plant-based milk alternatives is the future.

Engineering group GEA played a key role in implementing technology at the facility to turn raw materials into plant-based concentrate. GEA views plant-based as a strategic growth area and has invested in test centers to develop and test alternative proteins. This move aligns with the global trend towards plant-rich diets to reduce emissions by 76%.
